Seattle Dog Park: Columbia City (Genesee)

I moved to Columbia City partly for the proximity to the dog park. It’s not giant like Magnuson but not puny like Capitol Hill’s – it’s juuuust right. It’s a good size for dogs to run around and it’s pretty easy to keep an eye on them. I always refer to it as the Columbia City Dog Park but it’s technically called Genesee Dog Park.

The ground is a combination of grass and dirt/gravel which is great in the dry summer months but a bit mucky in the winter. That doesn’t stop us from bringing them, but we always know they’ll probably need a bath afterward.

The park has a lot of seating options – metal chairs and benches are scattered around the park for people to use (and for dogs to pee on).

When our aussiedoodles start to get bored we practice some “up” and “down” training using the boulders there. Here is Grizzly demonstrating a very nice “up”:

There are always other dogs there – and most of the time they are very nice. Ranger likes to make friends but Grizzly tends to make the rounds getting pets from the humans at the park. columbia-city-dog-park-04

There is ample parking available and there are sports fields and a playground nearby as well, if you want to bring the kids (the non-fur kids, I mean).
