Rasar State Park

Dog-Friendly Trip in Washington: Rasar State Park & Concrete, WA

Last weekend we took our new travel trailer on its maiden voyage up to Rasar State Park campground. It was about a two hour drive up there from Seattle, and that was with traffic (of course).

It was an easy drive and the campground is really nice. All the amenities you could want and we were surprised by how many other trailers were there. It’s a very family-friendly campground – kids rode their bikes around, there was a playground and other activity areas, and a bathroom complete with hot showers.

We walked the dogs down to the Skagit River for a short leg-stretch before we settled in to make dinner. The river was very calm, and the sand looked like it came from a pristine beach in Thailand. It looked like a wonderful place to swim – if the weather had been warmer.

We cooked up some hot dogs, corn, and of course marshmallows for dinner. Ranger found his new favorite place to sit in the trailer. Underneath our little dining table.

It had been a long day (we had driven up right after a full day of work) so went to bed after we ate. It was difficult keeping the dogs (especially Ranger) off of our bed. I’m not sure how long that rule is going to last.

On Saturday we went to Northern State Recreation Area. It’s a really pretty park with a few different trails, a creek, and some old buildings from a farming operation that was part of the Northern State Hospital. You can read more the history of the site here.

After the walk we drove over to Concrete, Washington to check out the little town and get some lunch.

We ended up getting burgers at this small place (which was packed with people). We ate outside with the dogs at the tables they had there.

After lunch we went back to the trailer for an afternoon nap. The boys cuddled up together on their new Chuckit! Travel Dog Bed which they clearly love. As cute as they are together on it I decided to buy a second one for the next trip so they could each have their own spots.

After the nap we walked over to Birdsview Brewery – it’s not a long walk butpart of it is along Highway 20 and the other part is along another busy-ish street so it’s not the most relaxing of walks. Doable, but not super enjoyable. You do pass by some super sweet horses, though.

We got a couple of beers and settled into the swing seat outside with the pups.

As you can see the brewery has ample outdoor space and are dog-friendly. They serve food as well but we did not get any. We did, however, get a “crowler” for a friend of ours.

We walked back to the trailer to make dinner – an udon noodle and vegetable Blue Apron meal. Then we took showers and went to bed. Sunday morning we got up early and walked the dogs along the really pretty Skagit River by the campground (sorry, no photos, both our phones had died by then!). You’ll have to take my word for it – it was a really nice, pretty walk.

Then it was back in the trailer and back to Seattle! It was a really fun first trailer trip and I’m actively planning more dog-friendly trips for the next few months.
