One of our favorite Seattle dog parks is the one at Magnuson State Park. At 8.6 acres it’s the largest off-leash area in Seattle and is the only one within city limits with water access.
A large, open play area greets you when you enter from the parking lot. The space is a mixture of grass and gravel and includes little dog showers by the entrance for you to use if you want to clean your dog up before leaving.

There is also a smaller fenced play area for small or shy dogs to enjoy:

After leaving the main area you’ll find a smaller open space separated by some trees. I often see dog meetup groups using this space.

A nice wide gravel trail leads from the main park area towards Lake Washington. It’s a long enough trail to have some good conversations with a friend and for the dogs to get some good sniffing in. Here you can see Ranger waiting impatiently for me to catch up:

After a few minutes of walking the trail opens up into a smaller play area with some rocks and logs for the dogs to play on and a couple benches for their humans to take a rest.

The trail continues past the small play area and ends at a double gate that leads to the beach access.

It’s a small beach but many dogs love racing through the sand and frolicking in the water.

But not mine. This is about as far as they ever go into it – just enough to take a drink.

After enjoying the park we often stop by the Seattle Barkery dog treat truck that has a permanent spot just outside the dog park in the parking lot. Here’s our friend Midas ordering at the counter while Ranger waits his turn:

At this point we usually load our dirty dogs up into the car and go home for some baths. One and awhile, though, we’ll drive over to the Magnuson Cafe & Brewery nearby. They have ample outdoor seating and are dog friendly – so if the weather is nice it’s a really great place to grab some grub and a beer with your dog. Just be prepared for a long wait on sunny weekends!
