Birthday Week Day 3: Crunchkins Edible Birthday Card

For the third day of Ranger & Grizzly’s Birthday Week I got them a Crunchkins Edible Crunch Birthday Card ($4.99). I’ll be honest, it doesn’t look all that appetizing but I thought an edible birthday card was a funny idea so I got them one!

I offered the edible birthday card to Grizzly and Ranger and at first they didn’t seem to quite understand what it was or what they were supposed to do with it. Ranger quickly caught on and dug into chewing it up right away.

Honestly, though, I didn’t realize when I bought this edible birthday card for dogs that it was a rawhide chew treat. I thought it was just a cookie or something else like that. I don’t give my dogs rawhide (here is a good article by the AKC explaining why) but I briefly considered letting Ranger keep the rawhide card because he seemed so into it. He was biting off chunks bigger than I was comfortable with (and spitting them out – but Grizzly was right there to eat them) so I decided to take it away after just a minute or two.

Rawhide is hard to digest and can pose real problems if large pieces are swallowed. This card is very thin, which makes breaking it into pieces a little too easy in my opinion.

If you disagree and think giving rawhide to dogs is fine and want to try this card just don’t leave your dog unattended with it.

All in all the dogs liked it but I didn’t – I was pretty disappointed to realize it wasn’t a cookie type treat. In my defense, on Amazon at least, they do not say it is a rawhide treat. It just says:

  • Edible Greeting Card For Dogs
  • All Natural
  • Mailing Envelope Included
  • Colors Do Not Run
  • Great Gift For Dog Lovers

So you can see why I didn’t realize it was a rawhide chew.
