We decided to take a weekend trip out to Grayland Beach State Park because someone I know recommended it, mentioning there was an off-leash dog beach there. Well as you all know I am always on the hunt for off-leash dog beaches so I of course had to make the trek to the Washington coast and check it out.
The campground was really nice, broken into these sort of round about circle type areas. There are tent sites, rv sites, and really cute yurts you can rent. While we were there we noticed you could rent a spot that had a yurt and a place for an rv – so that’s definitely something we’ll want to try sometime with friends.
The beach, I will tell you, did not appear to be an official off-leash dog beach. It is, however, really empty of people (especially in October, when we went) and there were no signs about dogs anywhere that we could see. We had to walk through thick, wet marsh to get from the campground to the beach (only later realizing there was a trail we missed that would have gotten us there without a marshy experience but oh well). The tree line you see in the distance is where the campground is:

The beach itself is huge, open, and sandy. The only downside is cars must be allowed to drive on it because we had to leash up the dogs a few times when we saw trucks coming. You can see all the tire marks in the sand:

We took a long walk along the beach and let the dogs off-leash for portions of it, other times we kept them on leash. There were only a couple people and the dogs left them alone so it was fine.

We did have to leash them up permanently when I had to drag Grizzly away from a pile of horse manure he was happily scarfing down. So gross! Grizzly seems to manage to do at least one disgusting thing on every trip we take. Ugh.
We took a little trip up to the small town just north of the campground and had dinner there. The town itself isn’t much to look at, and not really much to do there. I can’t really remember how the restaurant was but they had outdoor picnic tables for us to sit at with the dogs so that was nice.
We might return to try the yurt/rv combo site situation but the lack of things to do and the beach not really being an official off-leash beach are pretty big negatives for us. It’s not super likely we will come back for another visit.
