Ellensburg, Yakima, Suncadia Resort

We like to go to Eastern Washington in the early spring/summer months because it’s already nice and warm over there while Seattle and west of Seattle tends to still be pretty chilly and wet. We decided to check out Ellensburg, WA and rented an RV spot in the driveway of someone’s farm. It wasn’t really that idyllic and it was insanely windy there so we had to stay inside the trailer the whole time we were at the spot.

The area did have some beautiful hills with some trails which we briefly explored before nightfall on Friday when we got there but didn’t really hike at all.

On Saturday we escaped the wind to do a little day trip to Yakima to try out a lunch place my husband’s coworker recommended, The White House. They have a gorgeous outdoor patio with thick vines growing above the tables and lush plants all around. They were very nice to our dogs and happy to bring them water. The food was just okay – I got a caesar salad that was fine, but didn’t have croutons which is a pretty standard part of a caesar salad. It was HUGE though and I did eat the whole thing so can’t complain too much.

Then we stopped by the Sherman Park Dog Park to let the puppers have some free time. It was a really pretty park but there was only one other dog there when we arrived (and they left right after we came) so the boys got bored pretty quickly. We took them for a walk down the pretty paths running through the park before heading out.

On our way back to Seattle on Sunday we stopped by Suncadia Resort where we explored the farmer’s market and tried our hand at archery (I booked the archery in advance which was pretty crucial after seeing a lot of people show up and get turned away who didn’t make a reservation in advance).

While we were shooting at hay barrels our pups hung out in the small shadow of their own hay barrel.

After archery we decided to check out Suncadia’s Swiftwater Cellars Winery. It’s a beautiful building with even more beautiful views and dog-friendly both inside and outside! We got two wine flights but I can’t really remember what I thought about the wine. Wine is wine!

I really recommend Suncadia for people with dogs – it’s a super dog-friendly place in general (the lodge has dog-friendly rooms, too) and with all the outdoor activities a great place to vacation with your dog.

After this trip I can say that Ellensburg is totally skippable, Yakima is a good place for an afternoon (but probably not much more than that), and Suncadia is super awesome.
