Off-Leash Dog Beach & Dog Park in Edmonds, WA

Our aussiedoodles LOVE the beach. They don’t go in the ocean, they’re not into swimming, but they love to run around in the sand and sniff all the sniffs.

Unfortunately we don’t have very many off-leash dog beaches in our area of Washington. I was really excited when I heard about the off-leash dog beach in Edmonds, Washington, which is about an hour north of Seattle.

First off, I love Edmonds in general. It’s super cute with lots of shops and restaurants and astounding views. We found parking pretty easily and walked to the dog park (how you access the dog beach portion of the coastline).

The dog park portion is a good size with a couple little agility items but not that exciting otherwise, except for the beautiful view of the water. Once we walked through the park and down to the beach I was a little disappointed to see it was a very rocky and slimy beach, not the soft sand we’re used to when we take the dogs to Oregon beaches.

I found it rather difficult to walk around without slipping and was worried about my dogs’ paws on the sharp rocks. What I really needed to worry about, however, was the dead crustaceans littering the beach–my dogs found a large dead crab and immediately rolled around on top of it. Both got baths the second we got home.

One fun thing was that Ranger, who usually hates water and will barely get his paws wet let alone swim seemed to have a great time swimming around in a shallow swampy part. Gross, but look at how much fun he’s having:

After the beach we went into town for lunch at A Very Taki Tiki Bar & Grill and sat outside with the dogs, but there are many restaurants with outdoor seating if you have your dogs with you. We also enjoyed walking through the farmer’s market that happened to be going on while we there.
