One of the few campgrounds in Washington that still had available spots when trying to book this summer was Coho Campground in the south side of the Olympics. It was a really nice campground, very clean and surprisingly empty! The weather report called for rain (as usual) so maybe that’s why it was so empty. Here is our little spot:

We took the dogs on a 12 mile hike around the lake. By the end of it we were all exhausted and my legs were jelly, but it was still a really great hike! Here we are at the start of the hike, fresh-faced and ready to go:

And during the hike (James had Ranger at this point):

About half-way through the hike we had to cross a river. A super rocky, freezing river. James took Grizzly across first and then I followed with Ranger – or at least tried to. I walked forward and was nearly pulled into the water by my stubborn water-hating Aussiedoodle. He was still on the shore with feet firmly planted. He did NOT want to go into that river. He’s never been very fond of water, but he had to do it. So I dragged him into the river with me (no easy feat) and he swam across next to me as I killed my bare feet on the rocky bottom of the river. You can’t really see the river very well in this picture, but there it is.

Once across we rested and had a snack on a log.

When we finally made it back to our campsite and trailer it was nap time for all. I got a rare super snuggly Ranger nap:

I’m not even holding him there! My arms are wrapped around him but he’s there on his own free will. It was so hard extracting myself from such a sweet snuggle!
